Police
Department
The Police Department, under the leadership of the Police
Chief, is responsible for the preservation of life and property
through application of the principals of Community Oriented
Policing. There are four divisions of the Department:
Fire and Paramedic Services
As a result of the March 1999 election, Measure A was passed
by the citizens. Measure A transferred the responsibility for
fire and emergency medical response to the Consolidated Fire
Protection District of Los Angeles County. A Los Angeles County
Assistant Fire Chief is responsible for communications between
the City Manager of Gardena and the Los Angeles County Fire
Department. The Fire Department, under the leadership of the
Fire Chief, is responsible for the protection of life and
property from losses due to fire, explosion and other disasters.

Dispatch
Police, Fire and Paramedics dispatch services for emergency
and non-emergency incidents are supplied to City of Gardena
residents and businesses by the South Bay Regional Public
Communications Authority. This joint powers agency has proudly
served the cities of Gardena, Hawthorne and Manhattan Beach
since 1977. A new,
state-of-the-art public safety communications center was constructed in 2002.
