The
Traffic Detail is a component of the Patrol Bureau of the Police Department.
This Detail is comprised of a Police Sergeant, four Motor Officers,
two Traffic Officers, and two part-time civilian parking enforcement
officers. The Police Department is the founding member of the South
Bay Regional DUI Task Force. This is a task force which assembles on
a monthly basis, and during various holiday seasons to target DUI drivers.
Beginning in December
2002, the South Bay Regional DUI Task Force will receive additional
funding from the State of California, Business, Transportation &
Housing Agency, Office of Traffic Safety. This funding will put additional
officers on the street looking for Drunk/Impaired drivers.
To help reduce
"speeding" violations in the City, the Gardena Police Department's
Traffic Detail utilizes the enforcement efforts of our motorcycle
officers, who work targeted areas with Radar. When utilizing
Radar, the Motor Officer will first visually estimate a vehicle's
speed, and then utilize the radar to confirm the exact speed of the
vehicle. This will let the officer know if the car is exceeding the
posted speed limit.
The
other tool that the Traffic Detail utilizes is that of the radar trailer.
The radar trailer is a public education tool which displays the speed
of a vehicle as it drives by the trailer. This tool acts as a reminder
to the public to keep an eye on their speed.
If you have a
concern regarding "speed" violations in the City of Gardena,
and would like the Radar Trailer placed in your neighborhood, please
e-mail Sergeant Tom Kang at TKang@GardenaPD.org.
