Detective
Bureau
The Detective Bureau is a component of the Support Services Division,
and is commanded by a Police Lieutenant. The Detective Bureau is divided
into separate details which include Crimes against Persons, Crimes Against
Property, Youth Services, and Special Investigations (Vice/Narcotics/Criminal
Intelligence). This Bureau is currently comprised of two sergeants,
fourteen (14) sworn officers (detectives,) three full-time civilian
employees, and three part-time employees. The Gardena Police Department
was the first Department in the South Bay area to employ a civilian
employee as its Court Liaison, which is responsible for transporting
prisoners to the Torrance Courthouse and filing misdemeanor complaints
with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Crimes Against
Person
The Gardena Police Department has three detectives assigned to the
"Crimes against Persons" Detail. This group of detectives
conducts the follow-up investigations of such violent crimes as homicide,
robbery, assault, battery, and domestic violence.
Crimes Against
Property
The Gardena Police Department has three detectives assigned to the
"Crimes against Property" Detail. This group of detectives
conducts the follow-up investigations of such crimes as burglary,
auto theft, grand theft, petty theft, forgery, and identity theft.
Special
Investigations Detail
The Special Investigations Detail is a component of the Detective
Bureau, and is responsible for conducting investigations of vice,
narcotics, gang and criminal intelligence activities. The Detail is
currently comprised of one sergeant, five detectives, one full-time
Records Technician, and will soon utilize the services of a narcotics
trained canine. One detective is assigned to a regional narcotics
task force known as LA-IMPACT.
The Special Investigations
Detail handles oversight responsibilities of the Citys two Card
Clubs and processes applicant and business licensing for various establishments
within Gardena. In addition, this detail assists the Detective Bureau
with various criminal investigations and intelligence gathering.
