The
Gardena Police Department has three canine teams, primarily funded through
the state grants funds of the 2002 California Bureau of Justice Assistance
. Two of the canine teams are assigned to the Patrol Bureau, and one
is assigned to the Detective Bureau's Special Investigations Detail
(Narcotic enforcement). These canines work and live with their officer
partners, and their maintenance is funded through the City's General
Fund, which is augmented by a special trust fund which also accepts
donations from the public.
Canine
"Zar" is an approximate 80 lb. Czech/German Shepherd, born
on December 28, 2000. "Zar" is assigned to the Patrol Bureau
with his partner, Officer John Francis.

"Aron" is an approximate 70 lb. Czech/German Shepherd, born
on November 3, 1999. "Aron," is specifically trained for
narcotic detection, and is assigned to the Detective Bureau with his
partner, Detective Mark Wilson.
 
 
Canine
"Eik" is an approximate 80 lb. German Shepherd, born in
Northern Germany. "Eik" is assigned to the Patrol Bureau
with his partner, Officer Clinton Daniel.
