Meeting
Times
The
Gardena City Council regularly meets on the second and fourth Tuesday
each month at 7:30 p.m., with the Mayor presiding. The Mayor
and Council members each have a single vote. Three members constitute
a quorum and most motions require a majority vote for passage. All
regular Council meetings are broadcast live and are recorded to replay
on cable television
(either channel 22 or 31, depending on your cable service provider).
Copies of the
Agenda
Copies of the meeting agenda are available just inside the entrance
to the Council Chamber the evening of the Council meeting, from the City
Clerk's Office during regular business hours, and by double clicking
here. The entrance to the Council Chamber, located at the east end of City Hall, typically opens at
6:45 p.m.
The Agenda
The
Council meeting agenda is comprised of primarily seven (7) major sections,
they are:
Presentations/Proclamations/Appointments
- which may include Council appointments to commissions, corporations,
boards and committees.
Consent Calendar - which covers routine administrative matters. These
are not discussed and may be all approved as recommended on the staff
reports. Any item may be excluded by a Council member's request.
Items Excluded from the Consent Calendar - Any item requested
to be pulled by a member of Council from the Consent Calendar is heard
under this section of the agenda.
Planning & Environmental Quality Commission Action Sheet
- This is a list of items and actions taken and/or recommended by the Planning &
Environmental Quality Commission related to city building, planning,
land use, and zoning matters.
Oral Communications - is reserved for individuals who want to address the
Council on matters not listed on the agenda. Oral communications will be heard at or before 8:30 p.m.
Speakers are limited to 3 minutes, unless the time is extended by the
City Council.
Departmental Items - This includes items intended for Council discussion
and action.
Council Items and Directives - Council items are placed on the agenda by the Council for discussion and action. Directives are instructions conveyed to staff by a motion and second of the Council.
Procedures
If an
assisted listening device is needed, please contact the City Clerk
prior to the start of the Council meeting to make the necessary arrangements.
The use of cell phones, pagers, and other communication devices
is prohibited while the Council meeting is in session. Please turn
all devices off or place them on a silent alert; exit the Chamber
to use.
The City Council
will hear from the public on any item on the agenda or any item
of interest that is not on the agenda. The City Council cannot legally
take action on any item not scheduled on the agenda. Such items
may be referred for administrative action or scheduled on a future
agenda. In either case, the speaker will be required to complete
a form entitled Request
to Address City Council. This form is also available just
inside the entrance to the Council Chamber. Hand the completed
form to the Sergeant-at-Arms prior to the start of the meeting when
possible, but before discussion has commenced on any specific agenda item of interest. The public has the opportunity to address the City Council
at the following times:

Agenda Items - at the time the City Council considers the item
or during Oral
Communications

Non-agenda Items - during the time period set-aside on the agenda
for Oral
Communications

Public Hearings - at the time set aside on the agenda for Public
Hearings listed
on the
Agenda
