Gardena's
Municipal Bus Lines offers transportation service for senior citizens
(elderly) and physically disable (handicapped) residents of Gardena,
Hawthorne and the unincorporated Alondra Park and Del Aire areas of
Los Angeles County. In providing door-to-door demand responsive service
(commonly known as dial-a-ride service), elderly and handicapped citizens
can travel to any destination within the service area.
Residents can
apply for a Gardena Special Transit identification/certification card
by visiting the administrative office of the Gardena Senior Citizens
Bureau located at 1670 W. 162nd Street, Phone Number (310) 217-9552.
When calling Gardena
Special Transit dispatch at (310) 715-6646 or the Gardena Senior
Citizens Bureau at (310) 217-9552, indicate the following:
Your Name
Date you wish to travel (should be 24 hours in advance)
Your pickup address (location) and time
Your destination address (location) and time you wish to return.
Indicate any special situation or need (e.g. wheelchair, escort, service
dog, etc.).
Regular fare for
a one-way trip is 75 cents. Legally blind passengers ride free. Riders
from the Gardena Senior Citizens Bureau may ride at no charge using
S.S.I. tickets. These tickets may be purchased at the Gardena Senior
Citizens Bureau for 50 cents.
An aide (escort)
assisting a handicapped passenger rides free of charge however, the
person requiring the escort must have the ID card that specifies the
need for escort service.
Hours of service
are Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on weekends
from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
