The
Human Services Division also provides a variety of services to the
community, including licensed family child care, youth and adult counseling,
senior citizen outreach and meals programming and care for those suffering
from Alzheimer's of mental disease. To accomplish these tasks, the
Human Services Division, like the Recreation Division, is separated
into five independent, yet complimentary areas of operation, including
the Gardena Family Child Care Program, Senior Citizen's Bureau, Senior
Citizen's Day Care Center for those with Alzheimer's, Socialization
Center for the Mentally Disabled and the Youth and Family Services
Bureau.
The Division provides
diversified programming which includes licensed family child care
services to high risk and/or low-income families, which include recreational
activities, field trips, special holiday and summer programs; support
to senior citizens through information and referral services, case
management, in-home support; daily nutritional meals at seven community
sites, home-delivered meals, outreach, health clinics, escort and
shopping services; specialized care for people suffering from Alzheimer's
Disease, including daily socialization and recreation programs, exercise,
lunch, art and music therapy, counseling, health screening, transportation,
special events; programs for the chronically mentally ill who live
in board and care and family group homes, including daily social,
recreational and educational program; youth and family specialized
services of information and referrals, individual and group counseling
for youth and adults, an emergency assistance program of food and
clothes and/or shelter referrals, holiday "Helping Hands"
program for needy families, recreational and developmental activities
for high-risk youth, including drug prevention and self-esteem programs.
