She is a twenty-nine year educator with the Los Angeles Unified School District, and is a member of the United Teachers of Los Angeles, the National Council of Negro Women, the UCLA Alumni Association, and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Johnson has been on the Board of Directors of Gardena Youth Football and Cheerleading Inc. for the past sixteen years and is a volunteer cheer coach at Gardena High School.
A 1982 graduate of UCLA with a B.A. in Psychology, Mayor Pro Tem Johnson completed a Master’s Degree in Education in Spring 2011, and will soon pursue a Doctorate in Education at USC.
Her many Council responsibilities include her assignment to the Board of the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District, as well as representing the City of Gardena with the Independent Cities Association and the Centinela Youth Services. She also serves as the alternate representative to the Southern California Association of Governments and the West Basin Water Association.
Gardena has been Johnson’s home for over 27 years. She and her husband, Philip, have four children, who are all very involved in community and school academic and sports activities.
Mayor Pro Tem Johnson shares new ideas, and displays strong administrative abilites; working hard to make this community a safe place to llive, work, and raise a family.
